Community Book Donation Event Benefits Fletcher Students

Students at Fletcher Community School are excited about reading, and thanks to a recent book donation event, they each have more literature to add to their collections.

Representatives from Greater Mission Initiative and No Room 4 failure were on hand to give away more than 1,000 books to students as part of the Open Book Initiative. The materials were made possible through contributions from various children's book publishers and other national partner organizations. GMI partners with schools serving children from low-income families to help empower students through reading.

"We were extremely proud of the results from our “Open Book Initiative," said Anthony Lawrence, executive director at GMI. "Child illiteracy is a big problem, and there’s still much work to be done. But we look forward to continuing our efforts...”

Students chose from an array of books, including "The Son of Neptune," "Jack Blank and the Imagine Nation" and "The Lost Hero."
